About Nelson Cheang

 

Nelson is a screen composer, music arranger, and guitarist with a passion for telling stories through sound, specialised in film scoring, music arranging, and guitar recording/performing.

 

He earned a Master’s degree in Music and Audiovisual Media from the University of Liverpool in 2024, where he focused on film scoring and the relationship between music and visual storytelling.

 

Previously, Nelson scored the film Step by Step, which was nominated at the Macau International Short Film Festival. He  has also scored several short film such as Lust After, The Cape, etc. Moreover, He has scored commercial ads for Macau International Airport and Macau Cultural Development Fund.

 

As a guitarist and music arranger, Nelson holds a Rockschool Grade 8 Certificate in Electric Guitar and has performed across a range of genres, giving him a flexible ear and a deep understanding of musical dynamics. He has recorded guitar parts and other music arrangements for songwriters such as Max Chen and Loi Jai, and he has also worked as a guitarist for a musical in Liverpool Hope Street Theatre.
